Senator Michelle Ugenti-Rita discusses why she supports overriding Governor Ducey’s stay at home/closure order as well as the upcoming budget challenges.

On the states budget and looking forward.
“We grew the budget last year significantly. We doubled our spending. And now we’re gonna have to go back in and do painful cuts.  We could have avoided it if we had a little bit more of a conservative approach to the budget last year.” Ugenti-Rita
On Governor Ducey’s extension of the stay at home/business closure order.
“Why isn’t the decision to alleviate some of these restrictions?  Why are we doubling down? That’s what’s not computing with people right now.”

“What was implemented 6 weeks ago was temporary. It was never supposed to be permanent. And a better approach would probably be to learn to live with the coronavirus by taking reasonable precautions. The same things we do for other communicable diseases.”

“Just because you prioritize health and wellness doesn’t mean you give up economic security and your livelihood.  We can have both. Why are we constantly putting ourselves in this position where we have to pick one or the other.”

“I fundamentally disagree with where he took the press conference and his decision to extend the stay at home order.”The Jeff Oravits Show airs Monday-Friday from 4-6PM on 97.1FM and can be streamed at www.BigTalkerRadio.com

Pinal County Sheriff Mark Lamb joined Jeff to discuss why he will not enforce Governor Doug Ducey's executive order which has forced some businesses to close due to the coronavirus. “I will not cite nor are we gonna be issuing fines or arresting people for this”“We don’t make criminals out of good people!”“To take good hard working people who are the backbone of this country and the economy and your asking us to issue them a citation or fine because they wanna support their families and put their employees back to work”
“Above everything I think it’s unconstitutional”. “I won’t do it”. “I’m on the side of the constitution”
To those who are still afraid the sheriff had this to say:
“Nobody’s stopping you from continuing to stay home”“We can’t keep holding hostage 99.99% of Arizonan’s for the numbers that we have”

According to the Sheriff,  the governor and his office have had little communication with Sheriffs and others before making these decisions.
“I think they’re over looking the impacts of their decisions on public safety”
“We’re dealing with the repercussions of their decisions”
The Sheriff went on to say that he's seeing:
“Increased domestic violence. Neighbor problems.”“The last three or four weeks, the intensity of the calls we’re going on has escalated like you wouldn’t  believe”. “I’ve had more suicides in the last 10 weeks than I have covid deaths in the county”The Jeff Oravits Show airs Monday-Friday from 4-6PM on 97.1FM and can be streamed at www.BigTalkerRadio.com

Jeremy Mazon, one of the son's of Daniel Mazon, a 71 year old Winslow business owner, discusses his father being detained and cited by the Winslow Police Department on April 11th for refusing to shutdown his store, Authentic Indian Arts. According to accounts of the incident and a Winslow PD press release, the Mayor of Winslow, Tom McCauley, visited the store on April 9th after receiving complaints that the store remained open despite Governor Ducey's executive order that unessential businesses should be closed due to the coronavirus. According to the police report Mayor McCauley "deemed the store to be in violation" and notified Winslow PD of the alleged violation. That same day Winslow PD showed up to inform the owner of the violation. On April 11, Winslow PD returned to find the shop remained open and ultimately detained Mr. Mazon in handcuffs and placed him in the back of the police car for allegedly failing to show the officers identification. Mr. Mazon was not arrested and was released and cited with a pending court appearance on the matter. According to Jeremy Mazon, the store has remained closed since the incident occurred. The Jeff Oravits Show was the first to share this story after Representative Bret Roberts brought this to light on the show Tuesday. The incident has sparked statewide debate as to the extent and fairness of Governor Ducey's closure order and why larger stores that sell similar products can remain open while smaller businesses are forced to close their doors. On Thursday President Trump released a plan to encourage Governors to re-open their states as early as May 1st. Protests around the country have picked up in recent days demanding that Governors and Mayors ease and ultimately lift closure orders. An Arizona protest is scheduled for noon on Sunday, April 19th at the capitol in Phoenix.Since the coronavirus shutdown began about a month ago, an estimated 22,000,000 Americans have lost their jobs and trillions of dollars have been printed by the federal reserve and a 2 trillion plus stimulus package was approved by Congress. The nations national debt has exceeded $24 trillion and multi trillion deficits are now expected. As of Thursday nearly $350 billion earmarked for small business loans was already out of funds. The Jeff Oravits Show airs Monday-Friday from 4-6PM on 97.1FM and can be streamed at www.BigTalkerRadio.com
