"We Broke Everything" with Bruce Sidlinger

Bruce Sidlinger returns to the show with his, let's call it a manifesto, "Everything's Broken". What's been lost in America and where we're heading. A must listen!

Here's a transcript of his opening comments!

Jeff, we broke everything

We broke our worth ethic by rewarding identity instead of merit

We broke the systematic equality of opportunity that we had finally achieved and now we’re replacing it with a perpetual war between identities

We broke the dollar with insane deficit spending, we just haven’t realized it yet

…and we’re about to break the virtuous traditions of savings and self-reliance with runaway inflation, impoverishing our conservative elders

We broke any chance of good government going forward by embracing censorship

We broke the public school system by forgetting that schools are for the students and not for the teachers

We broke our universities by financing their descent into nonsense, and now we’re going to break peoples’ expectations of fairness with student loan forgiveness

We broke the nuclear family and that meant we broke our children’s childhoods

… and we broke our children’s adulthoods too with an unrealistic starting wage that means they’ll never get that important starter job

We broke our cities by abandoning law & order

We broke housing with unconstitutional takings from landlords and that will get worse with runaway property taxation. Developers will flee

We broke our world-leading corporate culture because so many employees will never go back to the office

We broke industry by outsourcing to China anything that seemed hard

And we’re breaking the very concept of America as a country with this opening of our borders. Instead of a nation we’ll just be an area of soil with people and stuff on it. Taking in all the oppressed and impoverished peoples of the world may be a kind-hearted notion, but it’s completely unattainable and all these promises are only promises of future heartbreak. Just like how we’re giving up our energy independence to countries that pollute vastly more, the principle known as the tragedy of the commons tells us that doing these things unilaterally is pointless self-immolation

None of these new ideas scales or sustains, which i guess is about what you would expect if you put uneducated, inexperienced, self-indulgent cynics with no knowledge of the development of civilization in charge of all the decisions

I just hope the vaccines of Operation Warp Speed, where our tiny Shining City on the Hill yet again saved the planet, doesn’t turn out to have been our last great gift to humanity

But I don’t want you to be sad, Jeff, so here’s a joke: Two peanuts were in a bad neighborhood. One was a salted.
